Silver Knight Heating is a family run business that has been operating in the Western Communities for 25 years. Ken and Marilyn the owners, came to Victoria in 1990 originally to work with the gas company on large projects, then to prepare contractors for the new gas system that was yet to come. It was then that they realized that Victoria lacked a full service heating company, one that kept all aspects of the business in house. Whether you needed a fire place, furnace, boiler, wood stove or a ventilation system they would be a 1 stop shop.

The sales staff, the gas fitters, the sheet metal mechanics and the wood stove technicians all are in house employees. This allows Ken and Marilyn to ensure only quality installations. Through the years as the business grew so did their children and they are now a vital part of the operation from sales to service and installation. We are proud to be a family operation with our strengths being an honest, professional service with trade practices well above basic provincial codes.

Sheet metal ducting is used to move the air through the home from forced air equipment. There are rules and regulations that govern the installation of duct work. These regulations are design to protect the equipment, heat or cool the home with an acceptable noise level, clean the air and remove drafts from the home. With good engineering practices and some planning this is easy to achieve, but not so for all heating contractors.

At Silver Knight Heating our sheet metal division is ran by a Licensed Sheet Metal Mechanic that spent 4 years learning about duct systems, heat losses, ventilation systems and design strategies to ensure you get all the advantages of your new equipment. Unfortunately not all contractors are the same, in British Columbia there is no code requirements for residential sheet metal work. In fact there is no inspection required. The only inspection is on the gas line (if there is one) and a count on bath room fan outputs. There is no concern about heat loss for proper sized equipment or duct design to ensure even heating and noise levels of the equipment and ducting.

This is bad news for most home owners with most sheet metal systems being installed by plumbers with no experience or design in the sheet metal trade. Creating noisy, drafty installation’s that make the equipment work harder than intended to and drastically reducing the life span of the equipment. A ducted heating system can operate quietly, efficiently, and cleanse your air- actually improving air quality if installed properly. Or it can be noisy, drafty, and dusty with huge temperature swings as the furnace cycles. The difference is not the furnace manufacturer; it’s the install company and their knowledge of heating systems. There is no short cut, if you want your equipment to operate to its potential, and give years of trouble free service you must be educated in duct design and heat loss formulas and do the right thing regardless, if someone is inspecting your work or not. Silver Knight Heating is proud of their work installing your furnace and ducting to standards that far exceed provincial requirements, ensuring you receive all the benefits of a designed forced air system.
